## Purpose

Use Catalog Optimization to review your Shopify products, generate drafts for titles, descriptions and FAQs, and publish selected fields after review. Access requires the feature to be enabled for your account, an eligible plan, and a connected Shopify store.

## What's on the page

The **Catalog Optimization** header includes **Refresh from Shopify** and **Shopify connection**. Select a product to review or generate its draft.

* **Storefront setup banner**: Prompts you to finish Shopify theme setup (adding the FAQ block and FAQ schema) so optimized content actually renders on your storefront. Shows verification state and links directly to your Shopify theme editor.
* **Products table toolbar**: Contains a search box for filtering Shopify products by title or search term, plus a loaded-count indicator noting if more products are available.
* **Bulk selection command bar**: A floating bar that appears when you select products, offering bulk actions.

### Shopify products table

Lists the connected store's Shopify catalog with per-product optimization status.

* **Select**: Checkbox to select the row for bulk actions. The header checkbox selects or deselects all currently loaded rows (up to the bulk limit).
* **Product**: Shows the product image, title, and identifier from Shopify.
* **Draft/optimization status**: Shows whether an AI-generated draft exists for the product and its state (e.g., not generated, drafted, published).
* **Shopify links**: Provides quick links to the product's live storefront URL and its Shopify admin page.

**Drilldowns**:

* Clicking a product row opens the **Product Optimization editor overlay**, showing an editable AI-generated draft (title, description, FAQs, SEO fields) alongside the live Shopify product data, complete with version history and publish controls.
* Clicking **Shopify connection** opens the **Shopify integration panel** to review your store's connection status, scopes, and reconnect or disconnect controls.

## What you can do here

* **Refresh from Shopify**: Re-fetches the product catalog from Shopify, clearing your current selection and any unsaved draft overrides.
* **Shopify connection**: Opens the Shopify integration panel to review or manage the store connection.
* **Optimize selected**: Located in the bulk command bar. Opens a confirmation dialog to generate AI optimization drafts (titles, descriptions, FAQs) for all selected products. Consumes credits unless your plan is content-credit exempt.
* **Clear**: Located in the bulk command bar. Deselects all selected products. Can also be triggered by pressing `Esc`.
* **Generate drafts**: Located in the bulk optimize confirmation dialog. Submits the bulk optimization request. On success, it populates draft previews in the table for each product.
* **Cancel**: Closes the bulk optimize dialog without generating drafts.
* **Load more products**: Fetches the next page of Shopify products.
* **Approve theme access**: Navigates to the Shopify reauthorization page to grant AthenaHQ Commerce theme access (requires integrations-management permission).
* **Retry verification**: Re-runs the storefront theme setup check after a failed verification.
* **Add FAQ to \[template] / Add FAQ block**: Found in the storefront setup banner. Opens the Shopify theme editor in a new tab to add the FAQ block.
* **Enable FAQ schema**: Found in the storefront setup banner. Opens the Shopify theme editor in a new tab to enable the FAQ schema embed.
* **Try again**: Found in the products error state. Retries loading Shopify products after a fetch error.
* **Products tab**: Switches the catalog view to the product optimization table.
* **Select / select-all checkbox**: Toggles selection of one or all loaded products, up to the bulk optimization limit.
* **Open product row**: Opens the product optimization editor overlay for that product.
* **Close editor**: Closes the product optimization editor overlay and returns focus to the triggering row.
* **Connect Shopify / Reconnect Shopify**: Located on the gate screen if Shopify isn't connected. Opens the Shopify connection panel to link or relink the store.

## Data shown

* Your Shopify product catalog, imported via your connected Shopify integration.
* Your Shopify storefront theme setup and verification status.
* Your plan's credit entitlement data, used to display optimization costs.

## Common workflows

1. **Bulk-optimize a set of products**
   1. Select multiple products via row checkboxes (or the header's select-all checkbox).
   2. Click **Optimize selected** in the floating command bar.
   3. Confirm in the dialog, reviewing the credit cost badge.
   4. Drafts are generated and appear inline in the table for each product.
   5. Open a product row to review or edit the AI draft, then publish when ready.
2. **Finish Shopify storefront setup for FAQ display**
   1. Notice the "Finish storefront setup" banner above the products table.
   2. If permission is required, click **Approve theme access** to grant AthenaHQ Commerce theme access.
   3. Otherwise, open each **Add FAQ to \[template]** or **Enable FAQ schema** link to open your Shopify theme editor and save the changes.
   4. Return to the page; Athena automatically re-verifies your published theme.
3. **Connect or reconnect Shopify**
   1. If Shopify isn't connected, you will land on the Shopify connection gate screen.
   2. Click **Connect Shopify** (or **Reconnect Shopify** if data was previously removed).
   3. Complete the Shopify OAuth connection flow in the opened panel.
   4. Return to the Catalog Optimization page, which will now load your product catalog.

## Empty, loading, and error states

* **Empty**: If no products are found, you will see "No Shopify products found" (or "No products match this search" if you used the search filter) alongside a shopping-bag icon.
* **Loading**: While products or theme setup status are being fetched, skeleton rows and loading indicators appear. Buttons like "Refresh from Shopify" or "Load more products" will show spinners.
* **Error**: If products fail to load, you will see "Shopify products are unavailable" with an error message and a "Try again" button. A toast with a "Review connection" action also appears on refresh failures.

## Linked from / links to

* **Linked from**: The **Catalog Optimization** navigation item in the sidebar's "Content" section.

## Common support questions

* **Why can't I select all my products at once?**
Bulk selection is capped at a specific limit to ensure reliable processing. If you use "select all," it will only select up to the maximum limit of your currently loaded products and notify you with a toast message.
* **What does the 'Finish storefront setup' banner mean?**
To display the AI-optimized FAQs on your actual live store, you need to add specific FAQ blocks to your Shopify theme and grant our app permission to inject schema data. The banner guides you through providing the right permissions and placing the blocks.
