## Purpose

The Integrations page is the central hub where customers connect Athena to their existing tech stack. It allows users to link third-party analytics tools, content management systems (CMS), reporting tools, and organization-wide communication platforms directly to their Athena workspace.

By connecting these tools, customers solve the problem of manual data entry and fragmented workflows. Connecting analytics helps attribute AI Search traffic and revenue, CMS integrations allow one-click publishing of optimized content, and reporting integrations push crucial insights directly into Slack.

## What's on the page

* **View-only banner**: A floating pill notice that appears if the customer only has view access. It displays a tooltip reading, "Ask an org admin for integrations write access to make changes here."
* **Measure & Attribute**: Tiles for data-source integrations. Includes Google Analytics 4, Google Search Console, and Google Ads.
* **Monitor & Visualize**: Contains the Looker Studio tile, which opens a setup guide drawer.
* **Reports**: Contains the Slack reports integration, which allows customers to deliver scheduled reports to Slack channels and DMs.
* **Organization**: Contains the Slack bot integration, an Enterprise-only feature for answering product questions globally in Slack channels.

### Integration Drawers / Panels

Clicking any tile opens a slide-in drawer to configure the integration. Common elements inside these drawers include:

* **Status & About**: Explains what the integration does and its current status (e.g., "Connected" or "Loading").
* **Setup / Connect Fields**: Input fields for credentials like API keys, Server URLs, Client Secrets, or buttons to "Connect with OAuth".
* **Active Property/Site Selection**: Dropdowns to select which specific property, domain, or account Athena should sync with (used in GA4, GSC, Google Ads, Wix, Webflow, Shopify).
* **Sync & Open Actions**: Icon buttons in the header to "Sync collections" (refresh data) or open the external provider's dashboard.
* **Disconnect Button**: Found at the bottom or left of the active panel, allowing the customer to remove the integration.

## What you can do here

* **Open integration panels**: Click any tile to open its configuration drawer.
* **Connect/Disconnect tools**: Set up or remove connections to GA4, GSC, Google Ads, Shopify, Webflow, Wix, Framer, WordPress, Payload CMS, Slack reports, and the Slack bot.
  * *Destructive action*: Disconnecting requires confirmation. Users must click "Disconnect", followed by "Confirm disconnect" (or "Disconnect Slack workspace?").
* **Switch active accounts/properties**: In the panels for GA4, GSC, Google Ads, and Wix, use the dropdown menus to switch which specific property/site Athena tracks. For Shopify, you can change the default blog destination.
* **Refresh/Sync data**: Click the refresh icon (tooltip: "Sync collections", "Refresh sites from Google Search Console", etc.) inside a connected drawer to fetch the latest properties, CMS collections, or site members from the provider.
* **Manage Slack Bot Channels**: Inside the Slack bot panel, select channels from a dropdown to add them (Athena auto-joins public ones), manually add a channel by its ID, toggle the bot's response status on/off per channel, or remove a tracked channel entirely.
  * *Destructive action*: Removing a channel stops Athena from tracking it, but you must manually kick the bot in Slack to fully remove it.
* **Open external dashboards**: Click the external link icon (tooltip: "Open Google Analytics", "Open Search Console", etc.) in the panel headers to jump straight to the provider's interface.
* **Show/hide Payload API key**: Click the eye icon in the Payload CMS drawer to toggle masking on the entered API key.
* **View Looker Studio instructions**: Click the Looker Studio tile to open a drawer detailing step-by-step instructions for API key setup and Looker Studio connector configuration.
* **Try again / Reload**: If a page-level error occurs, click the buttons on the error boundary card to reset the view or hard-reload the page.

## Data shown

* **Connection Statuses**: Displays whether a tool is connected, disconnected, or erroring, sourced from the customer's secure credentials stored in the database.
* **Properties and Collections**: Lists of analytics properties (GA4, GSC, Google Ads), CMS collections, recent drafts, and active categories, fetched live directly from the provider's APIs.
* **Slack Workspaces & Channels**: Details about authorized Slack workspaces and tracked channels via Slack OAuth records.
* **Billing & Role Access**: The visibility of certain integrations (like the Slack bot) and the ability to interact with them relies on the customer's subscription tier and organizational role.

## Common workflows

1. **Connect Google Analytics 4 and select a property**
   1. Click the Google Analytics 4 tile.
   2. Click 'Connect Google Analytics' in the opened panel.
   3. Complete the Google authorization consent in the popup window.
   4. If multiple GA4 properties exist, search and select one from the property dropdown (if only one exists, it auto-selects).
   5. The panel shows the active property, and the tile's status label updates.

2. **Publish content by connecting a CMS (e.g. WordPress)**
   1. Click the WordPress tile under Create & Publish.
   2. Enter the site URL and click 'Detect connection method'.
   3. If the site is self-hosted, enter the username and application password, then click Connect. If it is WordPress.com/Jetpack, click 'Connect with OAuth' and complete the popup flow.
   4. The panel updates to show connected site details, categories, and the post count.

3. **Set up Slack bot for the organization**
   1. Click the Slack bot tile under Organization (note: disabled for website-only members).
   2. Click 'Connect Slack' to authorize the workspace via the OAuth redirect.
   3. Return to the panel and pick channels from the multi-select picker (public channels are auto-joined) or add a specific channel ID manually.
   4. Toggle individual channels enabled/disabled or remove channels as needed.

4. **Switch or disconnect an already-connected integration**
   1. Click a connected tile (indicated by a green status dot) to open its panel.
   2. For property/account-based integrations (GA4, GSC, Google Ads), select a different property/account from the dropdown to switch.
   3. To fully remove the integration, click 'Disconnect' at the bottom left, then confirm by clicking 'Confirm disconnect'.

5. **View Looker Studio setup instructions**
   1. Click the Looker Studio tile under Monitor & Visualize.
   2. Read the step-by-step API key setup and connector configuration instructions in the opened drawer.
   3. Close the drawer when done (this is instructional only; no connection state is stored in Athena).

## Empty, loading, and error states

* **Empty**: Tiles with no active connection display a neutral gray status dot and a short description prompting action (e.g., "Connect to begin attributing AI Search performance.").
* **Loading**: While website context or connection statuses are loading, skeleton placeholder tiles and sections appear. Individual tiles may show a pulsing status dot and skeleton lines while waiting for their specific status query.
* **Error**: A tile that fails to connect or sync will show an orange status dot and "Couldn't load status" (or a provider-specific error message). The tile remains clickable so the customer can open the panel and retry. Major page-level failures show a full-page "Something went wrong" card with "Try again" and "Reload" buttons.

## Linked from / links to

* **Linked from**:
  * The main settings navigation sidebar/tabs (Settings > Integrations).
  * Direct deep links (URLs ending in `?provider=<id>`) which auto-open a specific integration's panel.
* **Links to**:
  * Settings › Billing (via the "View plans" upsell if they hit the paywall).
  * External OAuth authorization popups/redirects (Google, Slack, WordPress).
  * External provider dashboards (analytics.google.com, ads.google.com, search.google.com, webflow\.com, dev.shopify.com, slack.com/apps/manage).
  * Looker Studio setup instructions (reuses the drawer from the Organization API tab).

## Common support questions

* **"Why can't I click 'Connect' or save any settings?"**
  * You likely have "View-only" permissions. Check for a floating banner at the bottom of the screen. You will need an org admin to grant you `integrations:write` access.
* **"I removed Athena from my tracked Slack bot channels, but it's still in my Slack workspace?"**
  * Removing a channel in Athena stops Athena from tracking or responding to it, but due to Slack API limitations, Athena cannot automatically leave the channel. You must manually type `/kick @Athena` in Slack to remove it.
* **"Why is the Slack bot tile disabled for me?"**
  * The Slack bot is an organization-wide integration. If you are an external "website-only" member rather than a full organization member, you cannot configure it.
* **"I tried to connect Wix, but it won't let me save with just the API key and Site ID."**
  * Wix requires a validated "Publish as" site member. After entering your key and ID, you must click "Load site members" and select a specific user from the dropdown before saving.
* **"Why doesn't the Slack bot tile have a green connected dot on the grid?"**
  * The Slack bot tile always shows as disconnected on the main grid regardless of actual status. To see the true connection status, you must click the tile to open the panel.
