The Prompts page is the central hub where marketers manage every prompt that Athena tracks across AI search engines (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek). Each prompt represents a question that real users might ask an AI assistant, and Athena periodically runs that prompt against the supported AI models, captures the responses, and measures whether the customer’s brand is mentioned, cited, or recommended versus competitors. This page is where customers add new prompts, organize them into topics, attach tags, target them to specific countries and personas, pause or resume them, and review their per-prompt performance. It also branches out into related management surfaces: audience Personas, geographic Locations, the AI-powered Planner, and the Prompt Universe explorer. It sits at the front of nearly every analytics workflow in Athena. Most customers land here right after onboarding to set up their tracked prompts, and then return whenever they want to expand coverage, prune low performers, or investigate why a particular prompt is winning or losing visibility. What’s on the page
Page header
The header shows the page title Prompts with a small ⓘ info button next to it. Clicking the info button starts the guided product tour for the Prompts page. To the right of the title is a tab bar with five tabs: Manage, Personas, Locations, Planner, and Universe. Tabs that aren’t included on the customer’s plan show a small padlock icon. The active tab is mirrored in the URL via a?tab= parameter, so links and bookmarks preserve the tab.
Manage tab. Filter bar
A chip-style filter row sits above the table with the customer’s saved views and an Add More button on the far right. Each filter is described in the Filters section below. A trailing ⋯ more menu next to Add More exposes Columns (to choose which columns are visible and reorder them) and Export (to download the current table view as CSV).Manage tab. Prompts table
A spreadsheet-style table grouped by topic. Each topic is a collapsible group header showing the topic name and prompt count; expanding it reveals the prompt rows underneath. Rows can be dragged between topics and reordered within a topic. The prompt column is pinned to the left by default (with a pin/unpin toggle on its header), and the row actions menu is pinned to the right. Columns:- Select. Checkbox column. Supports Shift-click range selection. The topic header checkbox toggles all prompts inside that topic.
- Base Prompt. The text of the tracked prompt. Paused prompts get a gray Paused badge and dimmed text. On row hover, a small View responses button appears that jumps to the Responses page filtered to this prompt. The header’s chevron expands/collapses every topic at once.
- Countries. Country flags representing the geographic targets for this prompt. The cell is clickable and opens the country editor. Shows “Set countries” when none are configured. Up to 3 flags are shown inline; extras collapse into a +N pill, with the full list in a tooltip.
- Mention Gap. Tooltip: “Mention % - Competitor Mention %”. The difference between the customer’s mention rate and the top competitor’s mention rate. Positive (green) means your brand is winning; negative (orange) means a competitor is winning.
- Citation %. Tooltip: “Percentage of responses that include a citation to your brand”. Share of AI responses that cite the customer’s website.
- Competitor Citation %. Tooltip: “Percentage of responses that include a competitor citation”. Share of AI responses that cite a competitor’s website.
- Citation Gap. Tooltip: “Citation % - Competitor Citation %”. Difference between your citation rate and competitor citation rate.
- Attributed Citation %. Tooltip: “Citations from content you created in Action Center”. Share of responses citing content the customer has tracked or created in Action Center.

- Competitor Mention %. Tooltip: “Percentage of responses that mention a competitor”. Share of AI responses that mention a competitor for this prompt.
- Est. Impressions. Tooltip: “Estimated number of times your brand appears in AI responses (Monthly Queries × Mention %)”. Estimated monthly brand impressions, derived from the keyword’s monthly search volume multiplied by the prompt’s Mention %.

Data shown
Everything on the page is scoped to the customer’s currently selected website and the active filter set (date range, models, competitors, personas, locations, tags, status, etc.).- Prompts are the questions the customer has configured Athena to track. Each carries its own text, type, topic, tags, countries, personas, locations, and pause state.
- Metrics (Mention %, Citation %, Sentiment %, Position, Variations count, Impressions, etc.) are computed from the AI responses Athena has collected for each prompt over the selected date range. Comparison metrics use the comparison date range.
- Volume / Value / Monthly Queries come from external keyword-volume data and are refreshed on demand or on a schedule.
- Topics are customer-defined groupings of prompts.
- Personas and Locations are customer-defined audience and geographic targets that can be attached to prompts.
- Tags are customer-defined custom labels plus two built-in type tags (Branded / Non-Branded).
- Variations are AI-generated query fan-outs for each base prompt; they represent the actual queries Athena runs against the AI models.
